Rockhampton to Townsville road trip: Eungella and Cape Hillsborough

From Mackay you can choose to detour west to Eungella National Park, famous for platypus-spotting at Broken River. You can walk to the waterfalls and swimming holes of Finch Hatton Gorge on the way.

Otherwise, there are a few options on the way north to Airlie Beach. Mount Martin National Park and Bluff Hill National Park offer natural beauty, but  Cape Hillsborough National Park is the best detour. Here you can see kangaroos on the beach at sunrise if you stay at the Cape Hillsborough caravan park.
