Leaving Streaky Bay, you head north on the Flinders Highway/ B100. This goes past Pigface Island and Kiffin Island before reaching Perlubie Beach – one of the most attractive beaches on the Eyre Peninsula.

Keeley Beach and Simmounds Beach are a little further along. The latter is close to the Haslam Campground, should anyone be planning to camp for the night.

The Flinders Highway then runs north of the Acraman Creek Conservation Park, which is primarily used for boating and fishing.

Next comes Smoky Bay, a sleepy little village with a caravan park and holiday homes but – more importantly – oyster farms. Drop in at SA Premium Oysters or Smoky Bay Oysters to get super-fresh oysters at wholesale prices.

The Streaky Bay to Ceduna driving route then passes the Rose Bay Beach and the Laura Bay Conservation Park. The latter is a good place for spotting sea birds, with several rock pools and mangrove systems along the coast. There’s also a good chance of seeing dozing kangaroos.

The Flinders Highway then heads inland slightly before joining the Eyre Highway just outside Ceduna. Turn east to head into Ceduna – the last realistic supplies stop before crossing the Nullarbor from Ceduna to Norseman.
