Toowoomba to Dubbo road trip: Boggabilla to Moree

The highway passes through Boggabilla, then heads through rural areas without a great deal to get excited about.

There are several country stations, and you can pull over at the North Star Road Rest Area or Kiga Bore rest area, but there’s little point in doing so. Otherwise, the Bullala National Park isn’t too much of a detour to the east, although it isn’t really set up for visitors.

Things to do in Moree include the Waterbird Lagoon bird hide in the Gwydir Wetlands State Conservation Area, the Bank Art Museum and the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre.

Attractions between Toowoomba and Dubbo: Moree to Narrabri

The next leg of the journey, from Moree to Narrabri, is best tackled in one straight hit. It only takes an hour and 15 minutes and there’s really not much to see on the way. One possible option is detouring east to the Mount Kaputar National Park. There are some lovely walking trails, mountainside views and birdwatching opportunities around Mount Kaputar.

Other things to do in Narrabri include Sawn Rocks and Waa Gorge, in the northern section of the Mount Kaputar National Park. In the town itself, the highlight is the Narrabri Old Gaol and Museum. And, just west of town, there’s the Australia Telescope Compact Array, where a rather cool-looking series of radio telescopes receive signals from space.

Narrabri accommodation possibilities include the four star Adelong Motel and the well-located Mid Town Inn.
