The drive from Wagga Wagga to Sydney is likely to form part of a longer Australian road trip. Wagga Wagga is one of Australia’s biggest inland towns, and has a few attractions of its own. Wagga Beach on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River is probably the most famous of these.

Sydney’s enormous collection of experiences includes all-inclusive sunset dinner cruises, behind-the-scenes tours of the Opera House, jet boat thrill rides and historic walking tours.

For most overseas travellers, however, Wagga Wagga will be a staging post along the Sturt Highway. You’ll probably pass through on the drive from Sydney to Adelaide, or Perth to Sydney.

The Wagga Wagga to Sydney drive is 461km in distance, and should take around five hours and three minutes. Not much of that Wagga Wagga to Sydney driving time is on the Sturt Highway – the route joins the Hume Highway just north of Tarcutta.

From there, the Wagga Wagga to Sydney road trip passes through Gundagai, Jugiong, Yass and Goulburn. All have a few decent places to eat, and a few wineries nearby, but none offer must-see tourist attractions.

After Goulburn, however, the Wagga Wagga to Sydney drive enters the Southern Highlands, which is a much more appealing region to explore.
