But getting there is tricky. The Perth to Shark Bay drive takes just under nine hours. Understandably, not many people fancy that road trip.

Which airlines offer flights to Shark Bay?

Alas, Shark Bay Airport, just to the north of Denham, is very small. Major airlines Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar don’t fly there.

However, there are some flights to Shark Bay from Perth. They’re operated by Regional Express – also known as Rex. If you can’t get Shark Bay when searching, try Denham Airport or Monkey Mia Airport – it is sometimes listed under a different name.

The Perth to Shark Bay flight timetable is, to put it politely, erratic. But on most days, there is one flight – the ZL2258 leaving at 13.35. This arrives at Shark Bay Airport at 15.35.

The airport is along the short drive from Denham to Monkey Mia.

So can you fly from Perth to Monkey Mia? No. But the Rex flights to Shark Bay will get you within a 19km drive.

That drive part is the tricky bit. You’ll either need to book a transfer in advance through the Monkey Mia Resort, or arrange for car hire through Shark Bay Car Hire, which will pick up and drop off at he airport.

The bad news is that these flights are pretty expensive. Looking around six weeks ahead, Australia Travel Questions’ author David Whitley found one day where the cheapest ticket was $171.

But for most days, the cheapest one way fare from Perth to Shark Bay was $266. Bookings can be made online.
