Detailed answer: Australia has no shortage of zoos and wildlife parks where people can get close to native Australian wildlife. The big boys include Australia Zoo in Queensland, Taronga Zoo in Sydney and the Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. There are also smaller wildlife attractions, such as Featherdale Wildlife Park in Doonside, Sydney, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane and the Glen-Forest Tourist Park near Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula.

The Boronong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, near Hobart in Tasmania is a little bit different. Its aim isn’t to show off Australian wildlife to visitors – it is to get Australian wildlife back into the wild. An army of volunteers brings in injured and suffering animals year-round. Boronong aims to get these creatures back to full fitness.
