Adelaide Oval Hotel: How to stay at Australia’s favourite cricket ground

Adelaide Oval Hotel: How to stay at Australia’s favourite cricket ground

The Adelaide Oval Hotel is built into the eastern stand at the Adelaide Oval cricket ground. It’s surrounded by parkland and a short walk from the city centre. And if you want accommodation near the Adelaide Oval, you can’t get any closer.

The revamped Adelaide Oval has quickly become an icon of the South Australian capital. Taking an Adelaide Oval walking tour or trying out the Roofclimb is a great way of seeing Adelaide’s cricket stadium even when there’s not a game on. But it’s possible to stay longer than a couple of hours – the Oval now has its own hotel.

Adelaide Oval Hotel location & rooms

The Adelaide Oval Hotel merges into the eastern façade of the cricket ground. It stretches around the stand, and follows the curving path. It’s important to note that the rooms don’t look out on the pitch – they face in the opposite direction towards the surrounding parklands.

Pick your perfect Adelaide day trips

The rooms at the Adelaide Oval Hotel have a fairly neutral palette. The hotel bills itself as boutique, but it is not pulling any wacky design stunts. There are also studios and suites available. The suites have long, curving windows and magnificent views of Adelaide.

Malt Shovel Taphouse & Koffee Ink Café

The Adelaide Oval Hotel has four food and drink options to choose from. The Malt Shovel Taphouse isn’t quite on site, but is a short walk over the Torrens footbridge. This is primarily a place to drink beer and eat simple pub food. For a breakfast bite or coffee, the Koffee Ink Café is arguably better.

Adelaide Oval Hotel: Five Regions Restaurant

The two most impressive dining options, however, are the Bespoke Wine Bar and Kitchen plus the Five Regions Restaurant. The Five Regions Restaurant is perhaps the most interesting. It presents food and wine from five South Australian wine regions – the McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley and Coonawarra. Multi-course degustation menus cost $140, with an extra $70 for wine pairings.

Rooms at the Adelaide Oval Hotel cost from around $219 a night. Bookings can be made online.

Things to do in Adelaide away from the stadium include Adelaide mountain bike tours, chocolate-tasting at Haigh’s Chocolates, drinking cocktails on Peel Street and testing your nerve at Treeclimb Adelaide.
