Fairy Cove, Wilsons Promontory

You have to walk to Fairy Cove on Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, but this beautiful tiny beach is worth it when you get there.

Fairy Cove is one of the prettiest beaches on Wilsons Promontory, Victoria. But if you want to get there, you’re going to have to earn your reward.

There is no road to Fairy Cove, so if you want to visit this Wilsons Promontory beach, you’re going to have to walk there.

Fairy Cove walk from Darby River car park

The nearest place to park your car is the Darby River car park to the north. The walk from the Darby River car park to Fairy Cove is about 2.8km long, and should take around 45 minutes.

It’s not the most difficult walk in the world, and mainly takes in coastal scenery. But there is a reasonably steep hill at the start. Anyone with a moderate level of fitness shouldn’t find the Fairy Cove walk too challenging, however.

Once you get there, the forest rises steeply behind the beach. There are big granite boulders dotted within the forest, and a collection of them form an island just off the sand.

The beach is split into two, with a green headland sticking between the two stretches of sand like a bulging tongue. It’s easy enough to clamber over the rocks around the headland at lower tides, but don’t attempt it at high tide.
