What is Horse Head Rock, Bermagui?

Horse Head Rock is a natural rock formation in Bermagui on the South Coast of New South Wales. As the name suggests, Horse Head Rock resembles a horse’s head. Or, more specifically, the neck and head of a horse bending down to drink.

Because of the unusual look, Horse Head Rock has become popular with photographers and Instagrammers.

Where is Horse Head Rock?

Horse Head Rock is at the southern end of Pebbly Beach just to the north of Bermagui. Pebbly Beach is the beach south of Murunna Point, where Wallaga Lake empties into the sea. Another headland separate, with a headland separating Pebbly Beach from the better-known Camel Rock Beach on Horseshoe Bay.

You’ll pass by on the drive from Narooma to Bermagui.

How to get to Horse Head Rock

The safest way to see Horse Head Rock is from the lookout on the 1.5km walking trail from the Camel Rock Beach car park to Murunna Point.

However, it is possible to get to Horse Head Rock from the Camel Rock Beach car park by walking on the rocks around the headland. This should only ever be attempted at low tide.

Obviously, you can stop by Camel Rock on the way.
