Killcare Beach, NSW: Why visit this Bouddi Peninsula beach?

Killcare Beach on the Central Coast’s Bouddi Peninsula offers good surfing and a western end of the beach. There’s also a big car park and a kiosk inside the Killcare Surf Club building.

The main reason to visit Killcare Beach is the surfing – although you can swim in the rock pool.

Where is Killcare Beach?

Killcare Beach is a rather delightful beach on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is on the Bouddi Peninsula, which forms the north head of Broken Bay.

Killcare Beach is 1.6km long. It runs on to Putty Beach in the east. Putty Beach is where the 8km Bouddi Coastal Walk to Macmasters Beach begins. If you’re prepared to start a little further down, then obviously the Bouddi Coastal Walk is one of the best things to do at Killcare Beach.

The next beach to the west is Tallow Beach at Box Head.

Killcare Beach is a reasonably good beach for surfing. The Killcare end tends to get bigger waves than the Putty Beach end. According to Beachsafe, conditions are best when there’s a moderate southeast swell and northerly winds are blowing offshore.

Can you swim at Killcare Beach?

It is possible to swim at Killcare Beach, although sea conditions tend to be better at Putty Beach. The Killcare Surf Life Saving Club is at the very western end of the beach, and its members patrol the beach.

Stay between the flags – the surf lifesavers have to perform a fair few rescues at this Bouddi Peninsula beach.

The safest place to swim at Killcare Beach is the Killcare Rock Pool. This is a reasonably small ocean pool protected by a ring of carefully-placed rocks. The ocean spray still smashes into the rocks and splashes over the side.
