The best things to do in Toowoon Bay on the New South Wales Central Coast include snorkelling on the reef, the children’s playground in the Swadling Reserve and the Coast To Lake Walk.

Toowoon Bay is one of the quieter holiday spots on the New South Wales Central Coast. It tucks onto the peninsula between Bateau Bay and the Entrance, on the ocean side. Neighbouring suburbs include Long Jetty on Tuggerah Lake, Shelly Beach and Blue Bay.

Things to do in Toowoon Bay, NSW: Toowoon Bay Beach

Toowoon Bay is primarily a beach destination. The beach is about 700 metres long, and curves round to the headland at the southern end. There is a reef at both ends of the beach, which makes Toowoon Bay Beach one of the best snorkelling beaches on the Central Coast.

The reef also tends to protect the beach from ocean swells, which makes it one of the best swimming beaches on the Central Coast.

Toowoon Bay attractions: Swadling Reserve

The beach is patrolled – the Toowoon Bay Surf Life Saving Club is just behind the sand. But if it’s picnics and barbecues you’re more interested in, then the Swadling Reserve is also just off the beach.

The Swadling Reserve has undergone a recent revamp, and now has a much-improved children’s playground.

What to do in Toowoon Bay, NSW: Coast To Lake Walk

More active types might prefer to take on the Coast To Lake Walk. This 7.6km walking circuit loops around the peninsula from The Entrance, but incorporates Toowoon Bay and Long Jetty. If you don’t want to do the whole thing, the Toowoon Bay to Long Jetty section should take about an hour return. There’s pavement art on the way to keep you entertained.

Toowoon Bay accommodation

There are several accommodation options at Toowoon Bay. Most of these are holiday lets, cottages and rental apartments. But Kim’s Beachside Retreat offers romantic four star hotel accommodation, and the Toowoon Bay Holiday Park is a good bet at the cheaper end of the scale.

Other Central Coast beach suburbs competing for attention include Wamberal, Terrigal, Patonga, Forresters Beach, MacMasters Beach and Pearl Beach.
