Melbourne to Mildura road trip: Distance, driving time & best stops
Melbourne to Mildura road trip: Macedon Ranges wineries
The Melbourne to Mildura drive along the Calder Highway then passes Sunbury, Gisborne and Macedon as it heads through the Macedon Ranges. There are plenty of wineries to stop at in the Romsey area, should you wish to go wine-tasting.
Top Gisborne accommodation choices
The best places to stay in Gisborne are:
- For cottages amongst the vineyards: Gisborne Peak Winery Short Term Stays.
- For a private lake, tennis court, golf driving net and sauna: Cleggett Estate.
- For quirk factor and four poster beds: Galahad’s Animal Sanctuary B&B.
After driving past Woodend, Kyneton and Malmsbury, the Calder Highway enters the Goldfields region. The Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park makes a regional detour, but Bendigo has more to offer. The star attraction in Bendigo is the Central Deborah Gold Mine, where you can take a tour deep underground through the old mine tunnels.
Bendigo is also a logical place to break the journey. Overnight accommodation here includes the Best Western Cathedral Motor Inn and Mercure Bendigo Schaller.
