Malmsbury, Victoria, is a handsome little town in the Macedon Ranges region. For visitors, it offers a pleasant mix of heritage, nature, creativity and indulgence.

The most strikingly obvious attraction in Malmsbury is the Malmsbury Viaduct. This 152 metre viaduct carries the Bendigo train line over the Coliban River. When it was constructed back in the 1850s, it was a huge engineering project. Nowadays, it makes for marvellous photos.

Things to do in Malmsbury, Victoria: Malmsbury Botanic Gardens

You can get to the Malmsbury Viaduct via a walking trail from the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens. This is the oldest botanic gardens in Australia, dating back to 1850. The ornamental lake is the centrepiece here.

Other things to do in Malmsbury, Victoria, include fishing in the Malmsbury Reservoir. There’s a picnic ground at the north-western edge, and the reservoir is well stocked with trout and redfin.

Shopping in Malmsbury, Victoria

There’s also a nice cluster of galleries and independent shops in this Macedon Ranges town. Rathdowne Antiques and Gifts is very browser-friendly, while Tia Alysse Art is one of several artists’ studios.

Another great thing to do in Malmesbury is wine-tasting. A few Macedon Ranges wineries congregate here. Birthday Villa, the Lord Malmsbury Vineyard and Zig Zag Rd Wines are amongst the most interesting options for visitors.

Malmsbury is just off the Calder Freeway, and you can easily drop by on the drive from Bendigo to Kyneton.
