Rocks Market opening hours in Sydney
Sydney’s Rocks Market is open between 10am and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. During the Rocks Market opening hours, arts, crafts and food stalls line George Street, Playfair Street and Jack Mundey Place.
The Rocks Market
The historic Rocks area, to the west of Circular Quay, is the most touristy part of Sydney. You can learn more about it on a guided Rocks walking tour.
Given the amount of visitor footfall, the Rocks is a logical place to hold an outdoor market.
That logic has been followed through, and the Rocks Market has become a hugely popular attraction. The Rocks Market sprawls across George Street, Playfair Street and Jack Mundey Place. Live musicians and street performers intersperse the stalls.
Obviously, being a market firmly aimed at tourists, there is some tat on sale. But as a general rule, the quality of goods on offer is much higher than in the Rocks’ pretty dreadful souvenir shops.
Rocks Market stalls
A full list of stalls is on the Rocks website. Some Rocks Market stalls sell food, but the focus is on arts and crafts, with much of what’s on sale being locally hand-made. The more interesting Rocks Market stall options include Adri’s Gingerbread, which makes colourful gingerbread biscuits, and Australian Woodcraft, which makes homewares such as chopping boards from native Australian wood.
Elsewhere, you’ll find glazed mugs featuring cartoon koalas, ultra-colourful wine bottle holders and jewellery made from semi-precious stones. Bee Bowen Clothing offers tie-dyed scarves. Blooming Garden does one-off floral design phone cases. Bush Art Australia preserves leaves from native trees in 22 carat gold jewellery.
This is, basically, the sort of place where you get a good Mother’s Day or Father’s Day present.
