Eumundi Markets, Queensland: Days, opening times & stalls

The Eumundi Markets in Queensland is the biggest arts and crafts market in Australia. A short drive from Noosa, these Sunshine Coast hinterland markets have over 600 stalls, street entertainers and a wide range of food available. The Eumundi Markets days are Wednesday and Saturday.

The Eumundi Markets are the best markets in Australia. That’s a bold claim, right? Well…

Australia has several good markets. Visitors to the country are likely to enjoy the hugely touristy Rocks Market in Sydney, the Adelaide Central Market and the Mindil Beach Sunset Market in Darwin. The Rose Street Artists Market in Melbourne and the Fremantle Markets near Perth are also good bets.

But the Eumundi Markets in Queensland are a level above. A 22km drive from beach town Noosa, 42km from Mooloolaba or a 118km drive from Queensland capital Brisbane, Eumundi is a small Queensland town in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It’s on the main route from Brisbane to Noosa, so can be visited as an easier stop-off than the also lovely Montville and Kondalilla National Park.

Eumundi Markets days and opening hours

On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, Eumundi gets completely dominated by the Eumundi Markets. The Eumundi Markets opening hours are 8am to 2pm on Wednesdays and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.

This sprawling open-air market has been running since 1979, and focuses on locally made food and crafts.

The Original Eumundi Markets has been joined by several other markets tacking on to the sides, but don’t worry yourself too much about which umbrella each stall comes under.

Combined, the various markets have over 600 stalls, and attract 1.6 million visitors each year. It’s the biggest arts and crafts market in Australia, and a great place to get a fab Mother’s Day or Father’s Day present.

Stalls at Eumundi Markets

The emphasis is firmly and admirably on locally made products. That encompasses a wide range of ideas. Aussie Soles, for example, sells thongs with anatomically correct heel and arch support. Nature’s Cutting Boards sells wooden chopping boards in the shape of Australia. The Outline Gallery, meanwhile, sells fish and pelicans made from handcrafted glass.

Browsing for hours leads to natural insect repellents, floaty dresses, upcycled jewellery and old books turned into Christmas decorations. The Original Eumundi Birdhouse Co sells handmade birdboxes. Tracey Keller offers gorgeous cushion covers and place mats featuring kaleidoscopic animal art. And, should you be needing a colourful hammock, Sunshine Hammocks has just what you’re after.

But the reason to visit Eumundi Markets in Queensland isn’t necessarily buying Australian gifts and souvenirs. It’s about the whole experience. Throughout the markets are street entertainers, buskers and food stalls. You can break from the browsing to eat churros, empanadas or barbecued meats, washing them down with Noosa sugar cane juice or an alcoholic ginger beer from the Eumundi Brewery. It’s one of the best half days out in Australia – especially in September when the Sunshine Coast weather is driest.

Getting to Eumundi Markets from Brisbane or Noosa

It’s a 119km drive from Brisbane to Eumundi. It’s straight up the Bruce Highway and takes about 90 minutes. From Noosa Heads, the Noosa to Eumundi drive takes about 20 minutes.

For a Noosa to Eumundi bus, the 630 service from Noosa Junction will get you to the markets in around half an hour. There’s also a return shuttle bus service from various points on the Sunshine Coast.

Alternatively, you can take the train from Brisbane to Eumundi Station. The train to Gympie stops there and takes two hours and 11 minutes.

You can also do a day tour from Brisbane that includes Eumundi Markets, plus other Sunshine Coast highlights.

For a different Sunshine Coast markets vibe, try the Yandina flea markets in Yandina on a Saturday morning instead.
