Noosa weather: When is the best time to visit the Noosa?

The Noosa weather is at its best in September, and the best time to visit the Sunshine Coast is away from the summer rains.

Noosa is arguably the best holiday town in Queensland. That’s even with plenty of competition from the likes of Coolum, Mooloolaba, Caloundra, Marcoola and Mudjimba Beach nearby on the Sunshine Coast.

But the Noosa weather can have a considerable impact on the quality of a holiday here. So when is the best time to visit the Sunshine Coast?

The nearest weather station to Noosa that the Bureau of Meteorology provides historical climate data for is Tewantin RSL Park. Given that Tewantin is essentially a suburb of Noosa, this will do for our purposes.

Noosa weather statistics

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the hottest month in Noosa is January with a mean daily maximum temperature of 28.6°C.

But one of Noosa’s great qualities is that it never really gets cold. The month with the lowest mean daily maximum temperature is July, when it gets to 21.3°C. You might need a jacket at night then, but it’s still perfectly warm enough to get in the sea.

If I can do just one thing in Noosa, what should it be?

The Great Beach Drive – a four wheel drive adventure up Teewah Beach towards Double Island Point – is fantastic on its own. To go kayaking with dolphins as part of the same trip makes for a genuinely superb day out.

Take it as a massive personal recommendation – the Great Beach Drive plus Kayaking With Dolphins day tour should be at the top of your Noosa wishlist.

The Noosa weather factor that will really make a difference to your holiday is rainfall. Going for a walk in the Noosa National Park, canoeing the Noosa Everglades, shopping on Hastings Street or visiting the Eumundi Markets just isn’t as pleasant if it’s absolutely tipping it down.

February and March are the rainiest months in Noosa, with over 220mm of rain each.

It’s around the 140mm to 150mm mark between December and May. Rainfall in Noosa is considerably lower between July and November, with September having just 57.1mm of rain.

There’s a strong argument for the Noosa weather being at its best in September. Mean daily maximum temperatures are 24.4°C then – which is not too shabby. But visitors know this. Don’t expect Noosa accommodation – even the caravan parks in Noosa – to be cheap.
