Serafino Wines, McLaren Vale: Is the cellar door open to visitors?

The Serafino Wines cellar door in the McLaren Vale, South Australia, is open to visitors. Tasting flights are structured, and cost from $10.

Serafino Wines is one of several excellent McLaren Vale wineries just to the south of Adelaide in South Australia. Handily, it also has a cellar door operation, which is open to visitors.

Unlike many Australian wineries, the wine tastings are not free. Instead, there are structured wine-tasting flights. These are designed to be tasted sitting down, rather than standing at the bar. For this reason, it’s best to book in advance.

Serafino Wines wine flights

The entry level wine flight at Serafino is the Discovery flight. This concentrates on the Bellissimo Range and Serafino Black Label Range. These are the cheaper wines Serafino makes, with bottles usually costing from $25 to $30.

There’s also a tasting flight of Serafino’s premium wines. This sampling experience costs $39 and focuses on the more expensive wines the company makes.

If you like the wines enough to buy a few bottles, it’s possible to get a refund of the tasting fee. But you need to spend a minimum of $100 to get the Discovery flight fee back, and $250 to get the Premium flight fee back.

The Serafino Wines cellar door in McLaren Vale is open between 10am and 4.30pm every day.

Serafino Wines restaurant

Serafino Wines also has a very highly-regarded, modern-looking restaurant. It is open from Thursday to Saturday for dinner, and Friday to Sunday for lunch. Main course options include fish with baba ganoush, cauliflower and pomegranate, or duck with parsnips, kalettes and orange.

The Serafino winery is just off the Kangarilla Road, east of the town of McLaren Vale. Other McLaren Vale wineries worth looking at nearby include Hugh Hamilton Wines, Mitolo and Maxwell Wines. Only slightly further afield are d’Arenberg, Inkwell, the Woodstock Winery and the Chapel Hill Winery.
