The Stables Bar in Perth is a little piece of heritage in a city not known for preserving its past. The name isn’t entirely random – this Perth CBD bar and restaurant is in a former horse stables.
The original stables on the Hay Street site date back to 1894. You enter through iron gates, then wander down a cobblestone path. It has a strange feel of Ye Olde England that is completely at odds with the rest of the city.

Stables Bar menu
The Stables Bar menu isn’t especially strongly themed, but does offer a good range of tempting dishes. These include spinach gnocchi with sundried tomato, herb gremolata and shaved pecorino. You can also try rotisserie porchetta with mustard, witlof, fennel and corella pear, or a Shark Bay crab risotto. Mains generally cost between $30 and $40.
The big beast on the Stables Bar menu is the 1kg Albany Dolper lamb shoulder, which is served with three sides and costs $65.

Beers and wines at the Stables
The Stables Bar in Perth is also somewhere you can come to just for drinks. There are a few good local craft beers on the beer menu. These include several options from the Bevy Brewing Co in Burswood and a couple from Little Creatures in Fremantle. The star beer here, however, is the 6.5% Nail Brewing VPA from Nail Brewing in Bassendean.
White wines on the Stables menu include a Penfolds Bin 311 from Tumbarumba in New South Wales, a McHenry Hohnen chardonnay from Margaret River and a T’Gallant Cape Schanck pinot grigio from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
