Terindah Estate: Why visit this Bellarine Peninsula winery?

Terindah Estate: Why visit this Bellarine Peninsula winery?

Terindah Estate offers tastings, cheese plates and outdoor dining. But this Bellarine Peninsula winery’s strong suit is the views across Port Phillip Bay.

The Bellarine Peninsula at the southern end of Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, isn’t one of Australia’s best known wine regions, but it does have a couple of wineries worth visiting. The Jack Rabbit Winery is one of these, but nearby Terindah Estate is mighty fine, too.

Terindah is as much a functions and events venue as a winery. Its name comes from Indonesia – it means “most beautiful”. And it’s the setting that is the most tempting factor. There are some delightful views across Port Phillip Bay.

Terindah Estate wines

If you’re coming for the wines rather than the functions, then Terindah Estate specialises in cool climate wines. The Geelong wine region that Terindah is a part of has low rainfall and cool winds, leading to distinctive wines.

Terindah doesn’t try too hard with unusual varietals, however. It largely sticks to sparkling wine, chardonnay, pinot gris, rose, shiraz, zinfandel and pinot noir.

The cellar door at Terindah Estate opens daily from 11am, and also offers cheese plates for sharing.

It’s also possible to dine here. The Shed @ Terindah is designed to maximise the views, with floor to ceiling glass walls. There’s also a hefty outdoor dining area, known as the Shed Alfresco.

Getting to Terindah Estate winery from Geelong

Terindah Estate is about 20 minutes’ drive from Geelong, home of Buckley Falls. It is one of several Bellarine Peninsula wineries. Others nearby include Bouchon at Bellarine, Kilgour Wines, Bennetts on Bellarine and Lethbridge.

If coming from Melbourne, you can take your bike on the Portarlington Ferry. It’s a 6.6km cycle from the Portarlington Ferry terminal in Portarlington, which should take less than half an hour.
