Tertini Wines altitude and terroir

This Mittagong winery is a small, family-run operation and it does wine rather differently. Australia is renowned for its big, bold red wines. But Tertini Wines is at higher altitude, and makes use of its terroir to produce cooler climate wines. That means pinot noir and riesling, rather than shiraz and semillon.

The Tertini Wines vineyards are also spread across a fertile volcanic landscape, with mineral rich soils. This gives the wines mineral characters that give the wines distinctive flavours.

The award-winning cellar door operation is open by appointment only. However, once there, you can taste the wines while sitting in cosy seats by the log fire.

Mittagong winery cellar door experience

What makes the Tertini cellar door experience so impressive is the knowledge of the staff. They don’t just hand out wines for tasting – they genuinely try to be informative as well. This is the sort of wine-tasting session where you can actually learn a few things.

Tertini Wines is just over an hour’s drive away from central Sydney, which means it is easy to incorporate in a Southern Highlands day trip.

Other attractions in the Southern Highlands region include the International Cricket Hall of Fame in Bowral and Fitzroy Falls in Morton National Park. Waterfall obsessives might also be interested in Belmore Falls, Carrington Falls and Gerringong Falls.
