Bendooley Estate, Berrima: Winery gardens, accommodation & restaurant

Bendooley Estate in Berrima, New South Wales, is one of the most impressive Southern Highlands wineries. This Berrima winery offers grand gardens, cottage accommodation, the famed Bendooley Estate restaurant and – most surprisingly – a book barn.

Bendooley Estate in Berrima, NSW, is one of those wineries that has become a lot more than vineyards and a cellar door.

This Southern Highlands winery is a very popular wedding destination. That’s partly because there are several locations on the estate where weddings can be hosted.

Bendooley Estate is on land originally granted to Sir William Henry Moore. He gave the estate to his sister, Anne, when she married William Cordeaux in 1818. It remained in the Cordeaux Family until 1919.

These days, this Berrima winery is owned by Leo Berkelouw, who owns Berkelouw Books in Sydney. The Berkelouw Books empire is now headquartered at Bendooley, however. You get the unusual set-up of a Southern Highlands winery hosting the massive Bendooley Estate Book Barn.

This book shop/ warehouse specialises in rare, second-hand and antiquarian books, and share space with the restaurant and cellar door.

The Bendooley Estate restaurant, surrounded by bookshelves, is sometimes simple, sometimes a bit more daring. Pizzas mix with wagyu burgers and grilled quail at this Southern Highlands winery restaurant.

The cellar door offers a couple of different wine tasting experiences. It’s $10 for the basic package and $15 for the premium wines. Tastings are available from 10am to 3pm daily.
