Four amazing places to swim on Fraser Island

Where to swim on Fraser Island: Lake McKenzie

Lake McKenzie is the most famous lake on K’gari/ Fraser Island. It is world-renowned for its fine silica sand, and taking a swim in it is like swimming through a giant bath of pure mineral water.

Lake McKenzie is a natural marvel too. It is a perched lake, with no inlet and no outlet. That essentially means it is a bowl in the sand, which fills with rainwater.

The water is so pure that signs are put around the lake asking people not to swim with sun cream on. It can act as a pollutant and reduce the clarity of the water.

Most Fraser Island tours, including the one day, all-inclusive K’gari Explorer tour from Hervey Bay, spend some time at Lake McKenzie.
