One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island: The best sunsets in the Whitsundays?

One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island: The best sunsets in the Whitsundays?

The lookout at One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island offers one of the best sunsets in the Whitsundays. The 360 degree views come with cocktails from the One Tree Hill Café and Bar.

One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island, is perhaps the best-known lookout on the most developed island in Queensland’s Whitsundays region.

Can I watch the sunset at One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island?

This is partly because One Tree Hill is within the developed resort area of Hamilton Island, and is pretty easy to reach. It’s on the northernmost promontory of the island, on the way to the Qualia resort at the northern tip. But the grassy lookout offers tremendous views in all directions. You can look out over the rest of Hamilton Island.

You can also stare out over the reefs of the Coral Sea towards neighbouring Dent Island and Whitsunday Island.

What also helps make this the perfect Hamilton Island sunset spot is that you can enjoy a cocktail or two while there. The One Tree Hill Café and Bar is open from 3pm onwards, but comes into its own as the sun starts to go down.

One Tree Hill Café and Bar, Hamilton Island

The food menu is fairly simple – this isn’t a place to come to for your evening meal. But if a glass of wine or cocktail at sunset tickles your fancy, then the bar does the job marvellously.

There are free shuttle buses to the top of One Tree Hill, and you can hire a buggy. But for the sense of achievement, you might as well take on the 20 minute walk up the hill. That way, you feel you’ve earned your drink…

Other things to do on Hamilton Island include a Hamilton Island sunset cruise, playing golf at the Hamilton Island golf club and chilling out at Catseye Beach. The best time to visit Hamilton Island is between mid-August and mid-October.

You can also do a day trip from Airlie Beach to Hamilton Island aboard the Hamilton Island ferry.
