Albany to Hopetoun road trip: Distance, drive time & best stops

Albany to Hopetoun drive: Jerramungup and Ravensthorpe

Otherwise, keep going along the South Coast Highway to Jerramungup, a logical fuel and snack stop.

The highway runs north of Fitzgerald River National Park, which you can dip into for wildflower-viewing. Bear in mind, however, that the most attractive sections of the park are nearer the coast – and that’s almost certainly what you’re going to Hopetoun for.

Ravensthorpe is the next town along, and this old gold mining town does have a few things to offer. The Cattlin Creek Heritage Trail takes you past the most significant buildings, you can learn about the mining days at the Dance Cottage Museum and there’s a spectacular mural spread across three grain silos.

Ravensthorpe is also where you turn south for Hopetoun. On the way, you can take a meander along the Ethel Daw Scenic Drive to see wildflowers.

Things to do in Hopetoun include birdwatching at the Culham Inlet, admiring the cave and blowhole at East Mylies and snorkelling at Barrens Beach in Fitzgerald River National Park.

For Hopetoun accommodation, the Wavecrest Village and Tourist Park is a better bet than the Hopetoun Motel and Chalet Village.
