Manjimup Heritage Park: Museums, playground & entry fees

Manjiump Heritage Park in Manjimup, WA, is home to the Power Up Electricity Museum, the State Timber Museum and a great adventure playground with a giant slide.

What is Manjimup Heritage Park?

Manjimup Heritage Park is a park in Manjimup, Western Australia. However, this is not your usual park – it combines a museum precinct with one of the best adventure playgrounds in Australia.

Power Up Electricity Museum

The newest addition to Manjimup Heritage Park is the Power Up Electricity Museum, which is in the same building as the Manjimup Visitor Centre and Park Café. It houses several old electricity-generating sets, plus early electric vehicles and domestic appliances.

Entry to the Power Up Electricity Museum costs $14, but this also includes entry to the State Timber Museum.

Things to do at Manjimup Heritage Park: State Timber Museum

The State Timber Museum at Manjimup Heritage Park is arguably more interesting, however. This looks at Western Australia’s lucrative timber industry, plus the effects it has had on the lives of local people.

Entry to the State Timber Museum on its own costs $5.

Historic Hamlet, Manjimup

Some visitors will prefer the Historic Hamlet, which is effectively a small open air museum. The Historic Hamlet harks back to the small timber-milling settlement before it expanded in the 1940s and 50s.

Original buildings, including the school, police station and lock-up have been relocated here. You can dip inside each one and learn more about local history. Entry to the Historic Hamlet is free.

Steam Museum, Manjimup

The Steam Museum is the last offering in the Manjimup Heritage Park museum precinct. It’s all about how steam was used to power the timber industry. There are plenty of historic photos, but the star attraction is the 1907 engine formerly used by the Tone River Mill. Entry to the Steam Museum is free.

Manjimup adventure playground

For travellers with kids in tow, however, the main reason to visit Manjimup Heritage Park is the fantastic adventure playground.

The centrepiece of this marvellously-designed playground is a 17 metre high viewing platform with a giant slide. But there are also a 40 metre long flying fox, a massive climbing net, exercise equipment and sculptures of animals found in the local area.

For further information, visit the Manjimup Heritage Park website.

Other Manjimup attractions include Fonty’s Pool and truffle-hunting tours.
