Brisbane to Alice Springs road trip: Distance, drive time & stops

Crossing from Queensland to the Northern Territory

It’s another 661km from Mount Isa to Tennant Creek, and this is the most remote stretch of the Brisbane to Alice Springs road trip.

The only town on the way is Camooweal, just east of the Northern Territory border.

Things to do in Camooweal include learning about cattle droving at the Drovers Camp, and walking to the cave mouths in Wiliyan-ngurru National Park. You can also use Camooweal as a gateway to Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park.

Most important, stock up on fuel, as there’s nowhere else to do so until you reach Barkly Homestead, 260km away. It’s a truly empty stretch of Australia.

The Barkly Highway meets the Stuart Highway at the Threeways Roadhouse, 25km north of Tennant Creek.

Next section: Tennant Creek and the Red Centre.
