Brisbane to Uluru road trip: Northern route itinerary

Into the Northern Territory

From Mount Isa to Tennant Creek, it’s another 661km. This is the toughest stretch of the Brisbane to Alice Springs road trip.

The only town on the route is Camooweal, just east of the Northern Territory border.

Things to do in Camooweal include dipping into the wonderful world of cattle droving at the Drovers Camp, and visiting the big cave mouths in Wiliyan-ngurru National Park. Camooweal is also the gateway to Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park.

Most importantly, you need to stock up on fuel, as the next petrol is at Barkly Homestead, 260km away.

The Barkly Highway joins the Stuart Highway at the Threeways Roadhouse, just 25km north of Tennant Creek.
