The drive from Byron Bay to Lennox Head takes you from the tourism hub of NSW’s Northern Rivers region to a place that is often seen as the quieter alternative.

Byron Bay offers plenty – sea kayaking tours, hinterland rainforest walks, wildlife safaris and more. But Lennox Head keeps it simple – it’s just an old school surf town that offers beginner surfing lessons.

The distance from Byron Bay to Lennox Head is 20km, and you can expect a driving time of 20 minutes. Obviously, this is so close that you might prefer to do it as a day trip or half day trip from Byron.

Byron Bay to Lennox Head drive: Arakwal National Park

The Byron Bay to Lennox Head drive leaves Byron Bay to the south, mainly along Bangalow Road. This runs parallel to Tallow Beach in Arakwal National Park. This is arguably Byron’s most spectacular beach and is a popular surf spot.

Bangalow Road branches off to the west just before Suffolk Park. If aiming for Lennox Head, you need to keep going south along Broken Head Road.

This threads between the Byron Bay Golf Course and Tallow Creek before passing the Ti-Tree Lake Aboriginal Area.

Byron Bay to Lennox Head via Broken Head Nature Reserve

Shortly afterwards, you may wish to branch off down Broken Head Reserve Road. This will take you to Broken Head Beach and several walking tracks within the Broken Head Nature Reserve. The Three Sisters Track brings you out to impressive clifftop views, while further down, you’ll hit a trio of gorgeous coves – Kings Beach, Brays Beach and Whites Beach. You can follow along to the top of Seven Mile Beach – also known as Lennox Head Beach.

You will, however, need to head back to Broken Head Road (which becomes Byron Bay Road) if you want to reach the small town of Lennox Head itself.
