Dubbo to Cobar road trip guide: Distance, time & best stops

Dubbo to Cobar road trip: The Big Bogan
After Trangie comes Nyngan, where the Barrier Highway branches off the Mitchell Highway.
The top attractions in Nyngan are the statue of the Big Bogan – one of Australia’s more entertaining Big Things – and the Nyngan Museum. Nyngan accommodation possibilities include the Alamo Motor Inn.
On the drive from Nyngan to Cobar, there’s not an awful lot to see. You can have a look at the former Mount Boppy Gold Mine in Canbelego if you really must, but you’re better off heading straight into Cobar.
Things to do in Cobar include learning about the town’s copper mining heritage in the Great Cobar Museum and checking out the bizarre Cobar Sound Chapel art installation.
Cobar accommodation recommendations
The best places to stay in Cobar are:
- For a decent-sized pool and kitchenettes: Crossroads Motel.
- For – usually – the cheapest prices: Copper City Motel.
- For family rooms and a restaurant: Cobar Town and Country Motor Inn.
