By car, the distance from Gympie to Tin Can Bay is 53km. You can expect a driving time of around 39 minutes.

Most drivers will likely be branching off the Bruce Highway just before Lake Alford, but if coming from the centre of Gympie, you’ll go past the idiosyncratic Gympie Bone Museum on the Gympie Connection Road.

The Gympie to Tin Can Bay drive then joins the Tin Can Bay Road. Fairly soon, you’ll go past Goomboorian National Park, which is a wetland not really set up for tourists. The more intrepid can still go for a walk there, however.

Shortly afterwards, the Goomborian Travel Stop offers an opportunity to stock up on fuel and snacks. But you’re better off saving yourself for the Sublime Farm and Brewery, which offers beers made on site, pretty gardens and a restaurant selling local produce.

The Gympie to Tin Can Bay road trip then passes through the Toolara State Forest, finishing in Tin Can Bay, where dolphin-feeding takes place near Norman Point.

The dolphin-feeding experience at the Barnacles Dolphin Centre is the main reason to visit Tin Can Bay. But you can also do sunset cruises, and hire out boats.

Most accommodation options in Tin Can Bay are holiday rentals. But other options include the Tin Can Bay Tourist Park, the Tin Can Bay Motel and the Kingfisher Caravan Park.
