The drive from Kalgoorlie to Eucla takes you through the middle of nowhere. It links the only town of any real size in the east of Western Australia to the last settlement before the South Australian border. More importantly, it crosses the Western Australian half of the dreaded Nullarbor Plain.

The Nullarbor crossing is an Australian rite of passage – the drive through a whole lot of nothing is the experience, not what you see on the way.

But there are a few stops between Kalgoorlie and Eucla worth investigating.

Don’t want to drive the Nullarbor? Then consider a ten day camping adventure tour from Perth to Adelaide (or in the opposite direction).

The best thing to do, however, is see the Super Pit, one of the planet’s biggest open cut mines. There are three ways to see it, with the free option being the Super Pit Lookout. Alternatively, you can take a tour that goes part-way inside the mine or on a scenic flight overhead.
