Mount Isa to Katherine road trip: Camooweal and the Barkly Highway

The first town on the Mount Isa to Katherine road trip is Camooweal, just on the Queensland side of the border. Things to do in Camooweal include getting an education on cattle droving at the Drovers Camp, plus venturing to the cave mouths in Wiliyan-ngurru National Park. The town is also the gateway to Lawn Hill Gorge in the Boodjamulla National Park.

However, you do need to stock up on fuel here, as the next opportunity is 260km down the Barkly Highway at Barkly Homestead.

This is mainly a fuel and food stop, but it is possible to stay the night.

The Barkly Highway meets the Stuart Highway at the Threeways Roadhouse. This is 25km north of Tennant Creek, the logical overnight stop.
