Oddly, even though both Robinvale and Mildura are in Victoria, the drive between them is almost entirely in New South Wales.

The journey starts by crossing the Murray River on the Murray Valley Highway and joining the Sturt Highway, which skims through Robinvale’s twin town Euston.

Robinvale to Mildura road trip: Kemendok National Park

The route then goes past Prill Lake and Kemendok National Park. The latter has plenty of pretty riverside spots amid the river red gum forest, plus a campground.

Mallee Cliffs National Park to the north of the highway is, alas, restricted for scientific and conservation use.

Keep going along the highway and you’ll reach Monak Wine, one of many wineries in the Mildura region. The cellar door is open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Robinvale to Mildura drive: Trentham Estate

There’s a more impressive winery stop in Trentham Cliffs, however. Trentham Estate’s wines are middling, but the location on the bank of the Murray River is tremendous, and tastings are best conducted outside.

There’s a restaurant here, too.

The Robinvale to Mildura drive then hugs the Murray River and enters Gol Gol. Here you can visit the Rest-a-while Gardens and Gallery, have a beer at the Gol Gol Hotel or enjoy the river scenery in the Drings Hill Reserve.

Things to do in Buronga, NSW

The next town on the highway is Buronga, where you can enjoy a dose of nature at the Buronga Wetlands and classic cars at the Mildura Holden Motor Museum.

From here, you cross the George Chaffey Bridge into Mildura.

Things to do in Mildura include visiting the various sites on the Chaffey Trail, which tell of the ambitious project to irrigate the area and turn it into a fruit-growing powerhouse.

You can also use it as a base for day trips into the nearby national parks. The Hattah-Kulkyne National Park and Murray Sunset National Park are interesting, but the Mungo National Park is exceptional.

Top Mildura accommodation options include the Best Western Chaffey International Motor Inn and the River City Motel.
