How close is Broome Airport to the town centre?
Broome Airport is within genuine walking distance of the town centre, but it’s about 5.6km away from Cable Beach.
Unless you’ve decided to drive all the way from Perth to Broome, Broome Airport is likely to be where you enter the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Broome population may be under 15,000, but it is surprisingly well served by flight routes.

Most flights to Broome depart from Perth, but there are also options from Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin. What’s unusual about Broome Airport, however, is where it is.
Many airports are a long distance outside of the city. Travelling to the city centre can take an hour from the likes of London Stansted, Tokyo Narita or New York JFK.
Distance from Broome Airport to central Broome
With Broome Airport, this is very much not the case. It is absurdly close to the centre of Broome, and just 0.9km from the Broome Visitor Centre. That drive takes just two minutes.
The drive from Broome Airport to Chinatown takes a tiny bit longer – that’s 1.3km and three minutes. It’s the same to the Pearl Luggers, the heritage boats turned into a museum about the pearling industry.
To the Matsos Brewery, known for its tropical fruit-flavoured beers, you’re looking at 1.5km from Broome Airport.
Essentially, Broome Airport is one of the few airports in the world you can walk to your hotel from. Most attractions and accommodation within central Broome are within a 20 minute walk of the airport.
Best 5 Broome day trips to book in advance

Broome Airport to Cable Beach
The key snag, though, is that many people choose not to stay in central Broome. The long, sweeping Cable Beach, with its four wheel drive vehicles and camel riding tours tends to be more popular.
Cable Beach is at the other end of the Broome Airport runway, so you have to go round. From the airport to the Cable Beach Resort, it’s about 5.6km or a seven minute drive. That’s going to be a touch trickier to walk while carrying your suitcase in the tropical Kimberley heat.
Great things to do in Broome while you’re there include Dampier Peninsula tours, a visit to the Willie Creek pearl farm and hovercraft tours.
