Mona Ferry: Timetables & fare prices from Hobart to Berriedale

The Mona Ferry from Hobart to Berriedale, Tasmania, is arguably the coolest ferry in Australia. It connects Brooke Street Pier to the Museum of Old and New Art. Mona Ferry fares cost from $23.

The Mona Ferry is perhaps the most unusual ferry service in Australia. It connects Hobart, Tasmania, to Berriedale, about 11km upstream on the Derwent River.

More specifically, though, this Tasmanian ferry service links Hobart to Mona – the Museum of Old and New Art. This bold, iconoclastic art museum focuses on sex and death, and has been a huge international hit since it opened in 2011.

Where does the Mona Ferry leave from?

The Mona Ferry leaves from Brooke Street Pier in Hobart. That’s just south of Constitution Dock and just north of Parliament House Gardens.

It is not the usual humdrum, run of the mill, interchangeable ferry, however. It is kitted out in frankly mad décor, with garishness fully embraced. In standard class, passengers get to sit on model sheep and tigers. In the Posh Pit at the front of the ferry, free drinks and finger food are handed out in a shameless embrace of needless indulgence.
