Sealink Kangaroo Island fares depend on whether you take a car or not. The Kangaroo Island ferry cost is $110 return for foot passengers and $220 return with a vehicle.

The Kangaroo Island ferry

Kangaroo Island is one of the major highlights of South Australia. You can fly there, but most visitors will get the Kangaroo Island ferry, which can be booked online.

Sealink Kangaroo Island operates the ferry from Cape Jervis at the end of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. The Kangaroo Island ferry operates every day except Christmas Day, and the crossing takes 45 minutes.

There are two separate Kangaroo Island ferries – the SeaLion 2000 and Spirit of Kangaroo Island. Both have a fully licenced café and on-board WiFi.

How much does the Kangaroo Island ferry cost?

Sealink Kangaroo Island charges $55 for one way tickets on the Kangaroo Island ferry. Return fares cost $110. For children, the Kangaroo Island ferry fares fares are $33 one way and $66 return. However, the rival Kangaroo Island Connect ferry is cheaper for foot passengers.

To take a car on the Sealink Kangaroo Island ferry, it costs $110 one way and $220 return. This price covers most campervans and motorhomes. Bookings should be made online.

The standard passenger motor vehicle charge on the Kangaroo Island ferry applies to vehicles that are up to 5 metres in length and 2.3 metres in height.

These Kangaroo Island ferry prices have been updated for 2023, but are subject to change in future.

It is also possible to book the Sealink Kangaroo Island tickets in conjunction with a transfer from Adelaide to Cape Jervis. These shuttle services cost $34 one way and $68 return for adults. Again, book online.

If you choose to drive yourself, the Adelaide to Cape Jervis drive takes just under an hour-and-a-half. That is, of course, if you don’t stop on the way. There are plenty of Fleurieu Peninsula beaches to enjoy if you decide to take the drive at a leisurely pace. Sellicks Beach, Myponga Beach, Carrickalinga, Normanville, Wirrina Cove and Rapid Bay are all hugely appealing.

The Adelaide to Kingscote flight is a quicker option, however.
