Urimbirra Wildlife Park in Hindmarsh Valley, SA: Why visit?

Urimbirra Wildlife Park in Hindmarsh Valley, SA: Why visit?

The Urimbirra Wildlife Park in Hindmarsh Valley offers kangaroo feeding and koala photos close to Victor Harbor in South Australia at surprisingly reasonable prices.

Urimbirra Wildlife Park in Hindmarsh Valley is by no means the most incredible wildlife experience in Australia. It’s not even the most incredible wildlife experience in South Australia. This is a state where you can swim with dolphins from Glenelg, do a shark cage dive from Port Lincoln and swim with Australian sea lions from Baird Bay.

But if all you’re after is a reasonably good wildlife park in a fairly convenient location, then Urimbirra Wildlife Park does the trick.

Wildlife park near Victor Harbor

Urimbirra Wildlife Park is in Hindmarsh Valley, which is roughly equidistant between Victor Harbor and Port Elliot on the Fleurieu Peninsula. This South Australian wildlife park is a five minute drive from Victor Harbor on Encounter Bay, and just over an hour’s drive from Adelaide.

Don’t expect the time-honoured Australian wildlife park to get massively uprooted, here. The most predictable highlight is being able to hand-feed kangaroos. The Urimbirra kangaroos hop around the park and the park sells roo food for a dollar.

Koala experiences at Urimbirra Wildlife Park

Urimbirra Wildlife Park in Hindmarsh Valley also offers koala experiences. At 11am and 2pm every day the Urimbirra koalas pose for photos with visitors. You’re allowed to pat them, but not hold or cuddle the koalas.

The major difference between Urimbirra Wildlife Park and other parks elsewhere is that there is no extra charge for this koala encounter.

The best reason to visit Urimbirra Wildlife Park

Being reasonable on price is one of the best reasons to visit Urimbirra. Entrance fees cost just $14. If all you want is to see a few Aussie creatures and get some nice photos, then that’s pretty reasonable. Twin that with the convenient location, and it’s easy to visit the Urimbirra Wildlife Park for an hour or so as part of a wider Fleurieu Peninsula itinerary. You could easily visit one of the McLaren Vale wineries, such as d’Arenberg, Maxwell Wines or Inkwell, on the same day. There’s probably time to enjoy one of the Fleurieu Peninsula beaches – maybe Sellicks Beach or Myponga Beach – too.
