Bark Hut Inn, Northern Territory: Accommodation, bar, fuel & food

The Bark Hut Inn in the Northern Territory is a multi-purpose stop on the way from Darwin to Kakadu National Park. It offers accommodation, fuel, food and drink.

The Bark Hut Inn is a classic stop on the drive from Darwin to Jabiru in the Kakadu National Park. Several Kakadu tours stop at this Arnhem Highway roadhouse and restaurant to pick up lunch on the way into the Northern Territory’s best-known national park.

The Bark Hut Inn fulfils many roles. Like the relatively nearby Corroboree Park Tavern, it’s a roadhouse, a fuel stop, a bar, a restaurant, a shop and a caravan park all in one. You can by take-out alcohol here and take it into Kakadu, which has no bottle shops.

Bark Hut Inn pub

If you’re stopping for drinks or food, the Bark Hut Inn is a classic Aussie pub. There are crocodiles skins above the bar, plus buffalo horns painted lurid colours and dingo traps on the walls.

In terms of accommodation, the Bark Hut Inn offers a few options. It’s not an immediately obvious place to spend the night as it’s only an hour and a half out of Darwin. But the Bark Hut Inn offers easy enough access to the Mary River National Park as well as Kakadu. It’s also fairly close to the Corroboree Billabong and Fogg Dam.

Bark Hut Inn accommodation rates

The accommodation mix at Bark Hut Inn starts with unpowered camping and caravan sites. These cost from $23 per night, while powered sites cost from $35.

You can also book a budget twin room, with shared bathrooms, for from $80. The cheapest en-suite options are the standard cabins, which cost from $130. There are also motel rooms for from $150.

As you can probably work out, none of these options are particularly luxurious or design-centric. They’re firmly in the “it’ll just about do, considering” category. Bookings can be made via the Bark Hutt Inn website.

If not self-driving, you can visit Kakadu on a full day tour from Darwin, or a four day 4WD adventure tour.

Other things to do in Kakadu include a full day Arnhem Land tour from Jabiru, a scenic flight, a four wheel drive tour, the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise and the superb Yellow Water Billabong cruise.
