Corroboree Park Tavern: Accommodation, food & take-out alcohol

The Corroboree Park Tavern on the Arnhem Highway, Northern Territory, is one of the best places to get accommodation, food and take-out alcohol before entering Kakadu National Park.

The Corroboree Park Tavern in Marrakai, Northern Territory, sounds like it is going to be a classic Australian outback pub. In reality, it’s a mediocre pub that plays a different role.

The Corroboree Park Tavern is on the Arnhem Highway. You’ll pass it on the drive from Darwin to Jabiru in Kakadu National Park. It’s near the departure point for the Corroboree Billabong cruise.

Buying alcohol in Kakadu National Park

However, it is not inside the national park, and that becomes important if you’re heading into Kakadu. Firstly, the Corroboree Park Tavern is the last place before entering Kakadu where you can pick up a Kakadu Park Pass. Secondly, it’s one of the last places where you can buy alcohol, as there are no bottle shops in Kakadu National Park. The Bark Hut Inn a little further along is the very last place.

Corroboree Park Tavern food menu

Food-wise, the Corroboree Park Tavern offers some pretty good wraps, which are a good bet to save up for lunch in the national park. Food menus are available on the tavern website.

It’s also worth considering the Corroboree Park Tavern as an accommodation option. It is cheaper than anywhere inside Kakadu.

Corroboree Park Tavern accommodation rates

The Corroboree Billabong Caravan Park is attached to the tavern, and offers several different forms of accommodation. The camping and caravan sites are cheapest, costing from $20 a night. This is for unpowered sites. If you want a powered site, it costs from $32 a night.

There are also pub rooms and container-style rooms with shared bathrooms for $70 a night. The best value, however, comes from the cabins, which cost from $90 a night. Bookings can be made online.

None of these options are stylish or, indeed, anything beyond merely adequate. But if you want to attack Kakadu the next day, it means it’s a shorter drive than coming in from Darwin.

Alternatively, you can tackle Kakadu on a full day tour from Darwin, or a four day 4WD adventure tour.

Things to do in Kakadu once there include a full day Arnhem Land tour from Jabiru, a scenic flight, a four wheel drive tour to lesser-visited sections of the park and the justifiably famous Yellow Water Billabong cruise.
