Pullman Bunker Bay Resort: Is it suitable Margaret River accommodation?

Pullman Bunker Bay Resort: Is it suitable Margaret River accommodation?

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort near Cape Naturaliste, WA, is great for visiting Eagle Bay, Dunsborough and Geographe Bay. But as Margaret River accommodation it’s perhaps a little far from the wineries.

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is in the north of the Margaret River region in Western Australia. It is undoubtedly one of the finest places to stay in the south-west, but it is not necessarily the most convenient.

But let’s start with the upsides. The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is tucked in behind the beautifully white sand of Bunker Bay Beach. This Bunker Bay accommodation is also surrounded by green forest. It’s just off the Cape Naturaliste Road, and a stone’s throw from Cape Naturaliste and the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

Pullman Bunker Bay villas and pool

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort offers contemporarily-furnished bungalow villas made from local jarrah wood, plus plenty of sunbeds around a sizable, heated infinity pool.

There’s a boardwalk down to the beach and the award-winning on-site Vie spa is a major selling point for those wanting a bit of pampering. For families, the seasonal kids club at this Bunker Bay accommodation is complementary – a major bonus for any adults wanting downtime.

This Margaret River resort feels spacious, too. The villas are well spread around 35 acres of landscaped gardens, and there is a resort lake behind the beach.

Pullman Bunker Bay Resort prices

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is not cheap, however. Studio villas cost from $379 per night. It’s also not particularly convenient if your intention is to visit the Margaret River wineries.

Bunker Bay is right at the north-western end of Geographe Bay. The nearest settlement is Eagle Bay, home of the Wise Winery and Meelup Farmhouse. A little further south again is Dunsborough, where you can go paddleboarding at Meelup Beach and whale-watching on Geographe Bay. You’re also only a short drive away from the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Sugarloaf Rock.

Margaret River accommodation?

If your holiday is going to be based around Dunsborough, Eagle Bay and Cape Naturaliste, then the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is in a pretty good location. But the town of Margaret River is a 60km drive to the south. Even Wilyabrup, where many of the Margaret River wineries such as Vasse Felix congregate, is a good half hour’s drive away.

If you’re wine-tasting all day, that makes for a very expensive taxi ride, as most Margaret River tours won’t pick up and drop off at Bunker Bay. If you’re discovering the region’s natural attractions, such as Jewel Cave and Hamelin Bay, then it’s an annoyingly long drive back at night. Oh, and that drive is on a dark country road notorious for kamikaze kangaroos jumping out in front of moving vehicles.

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is undoubtedly a beautiful hotel in a fabulous location. Just make sure you want that actual location, rather than one further south and closer to the Margaret River wineries.
