Where is Bundegi Beach?

Bundegi Beach is on the North West Cape of Western Australia, near the town of Exmouth. It is on the eastern coast of the peninsula.

Bundegi Beach is next to the Naval Communication Station Harold E Holt near the tip of the cape, around 15km north of Exmouth.

Why visit Bundegi Beach, Exmouth?

Less well known than beaches on the Ningaloo Reef side of the peninsula, such as Mauritius Beach, Turquoise Bay and Osprey Bay, Bundegi Beach is nonetheless a gorgeous place to hang out.

This Exmouth beach is 1.6km, gently curving and usually comes with sparklingly clear blue-teal water.

Is it safe to swim at Bundegi Beach?

Bundegi Beach is well protected from the ocean by the North West Cape. It is east-facing, so almost entirely avoids the ocean swells. There is also a stretch of fringing reef, called the Bundegi Reef, which offers an extra layer of protection and is pleasant for snorkelling.

Crocodiles have made it down to the Ningaloo Coast in the past, but it is exceptionally rare. Sharks are also rare, but have attacked in these parts before.

There are no lifeguard patrols at Bundegi Beach.

Facilities at Bundegi Beach, Exmouth

Bundegi Beach isn’t quite as remote as you might expect. Cars can park up at the southern end of the beach, while there is also a boast ramp.

Perhaps most pleasingly, there is a small coffee shack at Bundegi Beach selling refreshments. You don’t have to bring absolutely everything with you.

If you can do just one thing in Exmouth, make it snorkelling with whale sharks. Seeing the biggest fish on earth gracefully gliding towards you is utterly awe-inspiring.
