Driving the Nullarbor: What are the best stops between Ceduna and Norseman?

90 Mile Straight: The longest straight road in Australia

Between Caiguna and Balladonia, there’s the dubious honour of driving Australia’s longest stretch of straight road. The 90 Mile Straight ploughs 146.6km of entirely straight road, without kink or curve. There are signs at either end that make for a classic Nullarbor photo opportunity.

The further west you go, the more the Nullarbor road trip landscape notably changes. The barren limestone plain gives way to woodland. It gets hillier, too, albeit only slightly.

The last worthwhile stop on the Nullarbor is the Balladonia roadhouse. Inside is another mini-museum, this time telling the tale of when the Skylab space station crashed to earth in 1979. Several parts landed near Balladonia, sparking a comical rush of souvenir hunters descending on Balladonia in the hope of securing their own chunk of space station.
