Eleven Mile Beach is to the west of Esperance in Western Australia. It’s a beautiful white sand beach, but there is no camping and it is dangerous for swimming.

Eleven Mile Beach is a beach on the south coast of Western Australia. It is located to the west of Esperance, on the Great Ocean Drive.

How long is Eleven Mile Beach?

This might sound like a daft question, but it isn’t because Eleven Mile Beach is nowhere near eleven miles long. The beach gets its name from how far around the coast from Esperance it is. Eleven Mile Beach is a 17.7km drive west of Esperance, which is pretty much exactly 17 miles.

According to the Beachsafe website, Eleven Mile Beach is 6km, with the western half called 13 Mile Beach as it is 13 miles from Esperance.

Why visit Eleven Mile Beach?

Eleven Mile Beach has the dazzling white sand that this stretch of Western Australia is renowned for. It also has a gloriously wild, isolated feel to it, with high bluffs and dunes ramping up behind the beach. There’s an edge of the world feel to it.

Is it safe to swim at Eleven Mile Beach?

In a word, no. Eleven Mile Beach is not patrolled by surf lifesavers and it is very exposed. The Southern Ocean roars in, and the rips are fierce. It’s a beach to lie on and admire, and possibly surf if you really know what you’re doing.
