Kryal Castle in Leigh Creek, Victoria, isn’t a theme park in the rollercoasters and rides sense. But it does have lots of knight-themed shows and kid-friendly activities.

Kryal Castle in Leigh Creek, Victoria, is one of Australia’s more unusual attractions. This faux medieval castle opened to the public in 1974, and has stuck rigidly to its knights and dragons theme since then.

Is Kryal Castle a theme park?

Kryal Castle near Ballarat often gets described as a theme park, but if you go expecting rollercoasters and rides, you’ll be disappointed. What it does offer is a strange mix of shows and activities. On the shows front, this includes jousting tournaments and a jester’s theatre. As the name suggest, the jester’s theatre shows are more silly and panto-esque.

On the activity front, you can tackle the castle maze, try your hand at archery or. There’s also the chance to go to Knight School, where a Master At Arms teaches kids how to use a sword and a shield.

General admission tickets cost $35 for adults or $22 for children. Children tend to get more out of it…

Kryal Castle also offers evening murder mystery dinners, where you tuck into three courses while trying to discover who murdered a royal princess. These murder mystery dinners cost $119 per person.

If you’re really into the whole chivalry and dragonfire thing, you can stay the night at Kryal Castle. The castle has 22 suites on site. The cheapest of these is the Gate House, which has one main bedroom for adults plus a room with bunk beds for the kids. The Gate House suite costs from $165 per night. Where is Kryal Castle, Victoria?

Kryal Castle is an easy detour on the drive from Melbourne to Ballarat, and is in Leigh Creek, 8km east of Ballarat. Other Ballarat attractions include Lake Wendouree, the Ballarat Wildlife Park and Sovereign Hill.
