Middle Park Hotel, Melbourne: Food menu and accommodation

The Middle Park Hotel in Melbourne is close to St Kilda Beach, but far enough away to feel relaxed. The food menu’s good, and this Middle Park accommodation offers something different.

The Middle Park Hotel in Melbourne is one of those pubs that benefits from not being right in the centre of the action. It’s next to Albert Park, where the Australian Formula One Grand Prix is held, and within an easy walk of St Kilda Beach. But it’s in a quiet enough spot to not feel frenetic, and that feeds through into this Melbourne hotel’s character.

It’s not a hard-edged pub, but neither is it one that tries to be too cool and trendy. There’s a neighbourhood pub vibe, but one that is worldly wise and borderline genteel.

Middle Park Hotel food menu

The Middle Park Hotel’s food menu is a step above that of most Australian pubs. There’s a classic beef pie and chicken parma available, but there are much more interesting options. These include a kingfish ceviche and a hanging lamb kebab with woodfired flatbread and raita.

Grass-fed steaks are the speciality, however.

Middle Park Hotel menu: Beers and wines

There are several beers on tap, too. Some of these come from Australia’s bigger craft breweries, such as Little Creatures and Furphy. But there are some lesser-known options, including the Kosciuszko Pale Ale and Pan Head Quickchange XPA.

Wines on offer at the Middle Park Hotel include the Seppelt Drives Shiraz from Heathcote and the Hentley Farm Villain and Vixen Shiraz from South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

Middle Park Hotel accommodation

Where the Middle Park Hotel arguably comes into its own, however, is as accommodation. There are 25 rooms, and the hotel has got a Melbourne design firm in to make the rooms look seriously chic. Plantation-style shutters, plenty of natural light, merino wool blankets and high ceilings give a sense of handsome, graceful gravitas.

Rooms at the Middle Park Hotel cost from $155 per night. Book via the hotel website.
