Lake Monduran, Queensland: Camping and fishing at Monduran Dam

Lake Monduran, Queensland: Camping and fishing at Monduran Dam

Lake Monduran near Bundaberg is close to the Bruce Highway. Caused by the Monduran Dam, this Queensland lake has a well-equipped holiday park. But it’s only worth staying if you like bass and barramundi fishing.

Lake Monduran is an artificial lake near Bundaberg in Queensland. It was created by the Fred Haigh Dam (also known as Monduran Dam), which was put across the Kolan River in 1978.

Monduran Dam location

The eastern side of Lake Monduran is flanked by the Monduran State Forest. But it’s what’s the south and west that will be of most interest to visitors. The Bruce Highway skirts the edge of Lake Monduran, on its way between Childers and Gladstone. Carry on up the Bruce Highway, and you’ll reach Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.

If doing that big drive north from Hervey Bay (or, indeed, south), you might be planning a stop in Bundaberg. The Bargara Beach caravan park in Bargara Beach is a cheap, seaside option here. But given that Lake Monduran is closer to the Bruce Highway, it might be a better choice.
