Currumbin Surf Club: Why should I visit this Gold Coast surf club?

The Currumbin Surf Club next to Elephant Rock on the Gold Coast offers affordable food and drink overlooking the beach.

The Currumbin Surf Club, as with many Queensland surf clubs, ostensibly exists as a base for lifesavers who patrol the beach.

As with many Queensland surf clubs, however, that’s essentially a fig leaf for the main business. The same applies to the Mooloolaba Surf Club on the Sunshine Coast, for example.

To all intents and purposes, the Currumbin Surf Club is a bar and restaurant. And because it’s officially a club rather than a pub, it can get away with selling food and drink a bit cheaper.

Best day trips from the Gold Coast – 7 ways to improve your stay

The Gold Coast is a destination in its own right, but there are several excellent day trips you can do while using it as a base.

The Currumbin Surf Club – more formally, the Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Lifesaving Club – is at the southern end of Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast. It’s just off Pacific Parade and right next to Elephant Rock. To say it is in a prime position would be a major understatement. Having a drink or a meal on the balcony overlooking the beach offers prime views.

Currumbin Surf Club menu

The restaurant at the Currumbin Surf Club is a good spot for breakfast, whether you go for a three egg omelette, toasted banana bread or one of the myriad alternatives.

The lunch and dinner menu has its fair share of Australian pub classics. These include the chicken parma, beef and bacon burger and fish and chips. But there are also some more unusual options. Why not try a Thai beef and prawn salad? Or a red duck curry? Or maybe chilli prawn and chorizo linguini?

Currumbin Surf Club entertainment

This Gold Coast surf club also offers entertainment, although that’s usually in the form of gambling. Rugby league tipping competitions and raffles are added to the standard gaming machines. Less depressing is the live music, which kicks off at 3.30pm on Sundays.

Other Gold Coast surf clubs include the North Burleigh Surf Club.
