But first you have to get to Traralgon. From Melbourne, that’s pretty easy. V/Line runs direct Melbourne to Traralgon trains from Southern Cross Station. The Melbourne to Traralgon trains take around two hours and twenty minutes, although some services are a tiny bit slower. The trains pass through Dandenong, Pakenham, Longwarry, Drouin, Warragul, Yarragon, Moe and Morwell on the way.

Melbourne to Traralgon drive: Distance and time

If you decide to drive from Melbourne to Traralgon instead, it doesn’t take quite as long. The Melbourne to Traralgon drive is 164km in distance, making for a driving time of about two hours and one minute.

Once out of Melbourne’s suburbia, the route is almost entirely along the Princes Highway (sometimes simply called the M1). The M1 follows much the same route as the train line, passing Traralgon on the way to Sale and Bairnsdale. The most interesting stop on this Melbourne to Traralgon Drive is Gumbuya World between Garfield and Tynong. Gumbuya World is a combination of theme park, water park and wildlife park. Also worth a detour is Narracan Falls, between Trafalgar and Moe.
