Peregian Beach, QLD: Markets, accommodation & swimming

On Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Peregian Beach is a better spot for swimming than surfing. But it’s a lovely place to hang out, with plenty of restaurants and the twice-monthly markets by the surf club. There are also several interesting Peregian Beach accommodation options.

Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland is both a beach and a town. It lies on the coast between Coolum Beach and Noosa Heads at the northern end of the popular holiday strip.

It’s a long, dune-backed beach that essential changes name as it stretches north, although the southern end of Peregian Beach is at the mouth of Stumers Creek. The southern end is also where you’ll find the southern end of Noosa National Park, around Emu Mountain.

Can I swim at Peregian Beach?

Peregian Beach is better known for its surfing than its swimming. Come at high tide for the best surf conditions – there are breaks along the beach.

Unfortunately, there are also some fairly nasty rips along the beach, too. This makes Peregian Beach fairly dicey for swimming. It is patrolled by the Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, however, so stick to the main area between the red and yellow flags.

Peregian Beach restaurants, shops and pub

Chances are, this is the part of Peregian Beach you’ll want to visit anyway, as most of the facilities and other attractions are here. Around the surf club, you’ll find Peregian Park with its children’s playground, car park, public barbecue facilities and toilets.

Just back from Peregian Park are a host of shops, cafés and restaurants. The Peregian Shopping Centre hosts Australian restaurant Pitchfork, the Baked Poetry Café and Thai joint Siam Spicy.

For a beer, meanwhile, the Peregian Beach Hotel is just behind the shopping centre.

Peregian Beach Markets

The Peregian Beach Markets also take place next to the surf club. While not as big as the Eumundi Markets or Yandina Markets elsewhere on the Sunshine Coast, these markets have a good mix of stalls and an enjoyable atmosphere.

The Peregian Beach Markets take place on the first and third Sunday of every month. Opening hours are 07.00 to 12.30.

Peregian Beach accommodation

There are several accommodation options at Peregian Beach. The best-known is the clothing-optional, men-only Hideaway Noosa resort. The Glen Eden Beach Resort is a better bet for self-caterers. And the couple-y Peregian Court Resort has a heated pool, spa pool and tropical gardens.
