Warners Bay, New South Wales, is officially a suburb of Lake Macquarie. But to all intents and purposes, it’s a suburb of Newcastle that just so happens to be on the northern shore of Lake Macquarie.

Things to do in Warners Bay, NSW: Lake and foreshore

The lakeside location is the major factor in Warners Bay’s appeal. If you want to get out on Lake Macquarie, then Kite and SUP rents out stand-up paddleboards. It is primarily a watersports equipment store, but it also offers kiteboarding, stand-up paddleboarding and wingsurfing lessons.

Of these, the stand-up paddleboarding is likely to be of most interest to casual visitors. One hour classes cost $35 per person.

What to do in Warners Bay, NSW: Watagan Track

If you’re happy just looking at the water, then the walk along the Warners Bay foreshore is lovely. The foreshore walk is dotted with sculptures, which add an artistic element to the stroll. The full Watagan Track, from Warners Bay to Speers Point, is mixed use, and a good bet if you want to hire a bike.

Boomerang Bikes has a bike station on the Warners Bay foreshore. You can release a bike by putting in your credit card details. The Boomerang Bikes scheme operates along the New South Wales coast. Other locations include Windang in Wollongong, Ettalong Beach on the Central Coast and North Haven near Port Macquarie.

Things to do in Warners Bay: Karting and skating

Away from Lake Macquarie, the best things to do in Warners Bay are go-karting and ice-skating. Xtreme Karts offers indoor go-karting sessions for from $30 a turn.

The Hunter Ice Skating Stadium, meanwhile, offers hour-long beginner ice skating lessons for from $20. You’ll probably require skate hire as well, unless you happen to have packed ice skates in your suitcase. That costs from $4.
